The Ouachita Mountains RC&D Area serves the following eight counties in Southeast, Oklahoma:
VISION STATEMENT: Ouachita Mountains RC&D (Resource Conservation & Development), Inc. is dedicated to the use and development of our natural resources to benefit the citizens and communities in Southeast Oklahoma. Our vision is to improve the standard of living and quality of life for all the Ouachita Mountains RC&D area's citizens.
MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to accelerate the conservation, development, and utilization of natural resources to improve the general level of economic activity and to enhance the environment and standard of living in the Ouachita Mountains RC&D area.
The Hugo Lake Disability Deer Hunt began in 1996. Ouachita Mountains RC&D began to assist in 2000. The hunt allows individuals with disabilities to hunt deer. Many of the hunters are Military Veterans. Several members of the Choctaw tribe are involved in this event as well as all the banks in Hugo, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, and US Army Corps of Engineers.
Youth Deer Hunt
Each October we team up with Oklahoma Department of Wildlife for the youth deer hunt. This hunt consists of both boys and girls ages 12 to 14 years of age .We solicit funds for meals for Friday through Sunday. Many kids harvest their first deer during this hunt.
